God’s Hidden Treasures

“Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart shall thrill and tremble with joy [at the glorious deliverance] and be enlarged; because the abundant wealth of the [Dead] Sea shall be turned to you, unto you shall the nations come with their treasures.” – Isaiah 60:5 (AMP)

We can most likely remember scriptures about how God know’s how many hairs that are on our heads. He knows the moment of our conception. And then there are some obscure things that I had never heard of until recently that are fascinating. In Jesus’ time there was not a huge understanding about the minerals and the Dead sea was all but useless. I would suggest that a sea without an abundance of fish would have been a great disappointment to the local people. Isaiah tells us about the wealth of the Dead sea even though with human understanding at the time the Dead sea would appear to be a waste of water. But God doesn’t do the obvious. God had designed the Dead sea with hidden treasure for the future wealth of Jerusalem. In A.D. 1935 G.T.B. Davis wrote, “One is almost staggered by the computed wealth of the chemical salts of the Dead Sea. It is estimated that the potential value of the potash, bromine, and other chemical salts of its waters is… four times the wealth of the United States!” (G.T.B. Davis, Rebuilding Palestine)

Perhaps you too might have hidden treasure? Perhaps you thought a dream, talent or gifting was dead and buried, never to amount to a “hill of beans”? Consider this; you may have hidden treasures to be seen or used at just the right God appointed time. We may think a talent or gift is broken or unusable but God can and does use the broken and unusable. God takes delight in doing the impossible. He uses old men to lead nations, old women to bare babies, a young virgin girl to birth a Saviour, a shepherd boy to kill a giant with a stone and murders of Christians to grow the Christian faith. God will use you if you let him. It is never to late to use your gift or talents for God’s glory.
